Thai New Year - Wet and Wild at the Songkran Festival
April 13, 2009

Songkran is the biggest and wettest party of the Thai year. Whether you are young or old, rich or poor there will be no escape, during Songkran you will get wet! "Songkran" comes from the Sanskrit "Sankranta" meaning "a move or change" and actually refers to any day when the sun enters a new sign in the zodiac ... READ MORE

On January 26 2009, the Chinese year of the Ox was celebrated in no small fashion. November 12, 2008

Loi Krathong (the floating festival of light) is a traditional Thai celebration in which the Thai people pay tribute to life sustaining effects of water by offering handmade floating lanterns to the rivers and lakes of Thailand. On the evening of Loi Krathong (which is held on the full moon of the 12th month of the Thai calendar-normally in November) families will gather at the waters edge to make a wish and to float the Krathong on the surface of the water ... Thailand - Smiles turned upside down
Thailand - Smiles turned upside down
October 12, 2008

This week was very hard on Thai people. Several Thais died during a police action to control the people protesting the current government. We can ask the question “does the PAD have the right to protest”. I guess the question is kind of mute because the government, namely the military and the police have allowed to hold protest these last few months ... READ MORE
Thailand - situation update
Thailand - situation update
September 9, 2008

Having lived in Thailand for the last two years I have experienced their military coup of 2006 as well and their path back to democracy. The coup was bloodless and the only person I am aware of getting hurt was a taxi driver who rammed a tank park in the street because he was frustrated with it being in his way. The Thai people’s path back to democracy was well planned and quite structured by the military who was governing Thailand after the coup. Initially a new constitution was written that afforded more protection against governmental abuses ... READ MORE
Political Unrest in Thailand
Political Unrest in Thailand
February 23, 2008

The military “asked” for the Prime Minister to step down. After the coup, the provisional government investigated the ousted Prime Minister and charged him with many things, mostly related to a misuse of his position as PM, which lead to a huge increase in his and his family’s personal wealth ...
