A day trip to the Rama IX Botanical Gardens is a great way to spend the day in Bangkok in an out-of-the-way scenic area, little frequented by foreigners. These gardens are located to the east and a little south of Bangkok center city, only costing a little over 100 baht to get there by taxi. The entrance fees are only 30 baht per adult and that is only if you come after 9 am. I got there a little after 7 am and the timing couldn't have been more perfect. The sun was just burning through some early morning clouds, making for a perfect picture taking morning. To enable you to enjoy some of the outstanding views that I was able to I have made this a pictorial essay allowing you to "click" the picture icons below to view larger, more detailed pictures if you would like.
There are many nice areas and facilities throughout the park.

There are many different flowering and non-flowering plants at these Gardens. I have some examples of the flowering variety below but have separated out the Lotuses because there was many, many varieties of lotuses at the Gardens.

Outside the Garden
On the west side of the park is the Secon Square area and immediately outside the gate is a fresh market where I was able to get lunch. I have a few pictures of the market below (yes, those are duck heads that are a quite popular snack in Thailand).

The trip to Rama IX Botanical Gardens was great. I spent a half-a-day exploring, leaving some of the park for me to discover another day.
