Koh Samet is another of the larger islands in the Thai Gulf. It is easier to get to than Koh Chang. Only being 2 to three hours driving time from Bangkok, depending on whether you drive or take a taxi or take a bus. The island lies off the coast of Rayong, where you can catch a ferry out to the island. However you arrive at the pier, you have to leave the vehicle behind for the amount of cars on the island is strictly controlled. Ferry's are available to most of the major beaches and private speed boats are also usually available for an increased cost. Most of the smaller beaches are quiet lazy places to enjoy the sun and relax.

The majority of the interior of the island is part of the Thailand National Park system. This keeps the island rather low key despite its proximity to Bangkok.

The western side of the island is quite rocky and has access to amazing sunsets views. The island has a trail that transect the middle of the island and you can walk all the way to the southern tip where the best sun sets are had.
