There has been a market here since the time of King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V 1868 – 1910), when the canal was used as the main transportation route for travelers heading to Bangkok. Klong Suan became a popular stop-over point and the market flourished into an important trading center dealing in almost everything (at one time even selling opium!)
Today, the market is a marvelously, colorful affair; rows of two-storey wooden houses straddle the canal, while every spare inch of space is crammed with shops and stalls selling all sorts of things from tasty traditional foods to farm appliances.

The market's antique decor and ambience oozes old-world charm and will make you feel as if you have been transported back in time. Here, you will experience authentic Thai culture, as over the 100 plus years that the market has been running, the community's traditional way of life has largely remained unchanged.
Getting there
The "100 year old market" is not far from Suvarnabhumi airport. To get there from Bangkok you could drive, take an air-conditioned taxi, catch a bus or take the sky train to On Nut. The market starts about 28kms from On Nut, along Soi On Nut and Lat Krabang - it is basically the same road all the way.
