I took a long weekend break to visit Hong Kong, mainly to renew my visa for Thailand; however, during my three day break I got a real taste of this great city.

Upon arrival in Hong Kong I immediately bought a Tourist Day Pass that entitled me to up to 24 consecutive hours of train travel on MTR (Mass Transit Railway) – which more than covered me for the three days I was there. The MTR has eight separate interconnecting lines with numerous stops to give you easy access to all the major spots throughout the city.

1. Hong Kong Shopping - With many markets, hundreds of shopping malls and thousands of shops, Hong Kong is truly a shopaholic’s paradise.
2. Victoria Peak and the Peak Tram - Take a steep ride on the Peak Tram up to the highest point on Hong Kong Island. Victoria Peak not only offers nature walks and breathtaking views of Hong Kong, but with two shopping malls and plenty of restaurants there is so much to do you may not want to come back down again.
3. Victoria Harbor - For stunning panoramic views of Hong Kong’s city skyline, head to the Harbor and take a scenic cruise or see if you can spot the famous names while strolling along the Avenue of Stars.
4. Star Ferry - The world-famous Star Ferries have been transporting people across Victoria Harbor for more than 100 years. Taking a cruise is probably the best way to see the Harbor and to witness the firework and laser spectacle of the Symphony of Lights.
5. Wong Tai Sin Temple - Famous in Hong Kong for granting wishes, Wong Tai Sin is the place to go if you want to have your fortune told.
6. Chi Lin Nunnery - Chi Lin Nunnery is a wonderful 75 year-old Buddhist Temple complex in Kowloon, renowned for its amazing architecture, which has been beautifully renovated in the style of the ancient Chinese Tang Dynasty.
7. Nan Lian Garden - A fantastic way to escape from hectic city life, Nan Lian Garden is a traditional Chinese garden is another must-see attraction in Kowloon and a great place to take photos.
