Originally founded in 1934, the Buddhist Temple complex was renovated in 1990 using the style and techniques of the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) - the buildings were constructed entirely from interlocking pieces of wood without using any nails!

As the only example of Tang Dynasty architecture in modern Hong Kong and a private Buddhist nunnery, the Temple complex is essentially a living museum, which includes the nunnery as well as several Temple halls, visitors’ hostels and a vegetarian restaurant. Here, you will see wonderful statues, beautiful lotus covered ponds, and intricately sculpted bonsai trees in an impressive Zen-style rock garden, not to mention a magnificent pagoda dedicated to Ten Thousand Buddhas.

Although a private establishment, visitors are welcome to enter parts of the nunnery, but if you do catch a glimpse of the shaven headed nuns, please be respectful and at all times bear in mind that religious observances may be in progress.
